My only regret is that I cried so many tears while I waited for you.

"...I'll try ~ but it's so hard to believe. I'll try ~ but I can't see what you see. I'll try and try to understand the distance between the love I feel ~ the thing I fear ~ and every single dream. I can finally see it. Now I have to believe all those precious stories. All the world is made of faith ~ and trust ~ and pixie dust. So I'll try ~ because I finally believe. So Why Stinkerie?

It's simple, really. It's the first thing I whispered against my newborn little Dumpling's temple as I held him alone for that very first time. "There's my Little Stinkerie." And all was right with the world as I brushed my lips across his delicate dewy soft newborn-pink skin and sniffed at his sparse smattering of downy soft hair. Corny and sappy, huh? I can't help it when describing my new Little Puppy. But don't get used to it - I have been told I am "irreverent."

Anyway, it just came out and he's been Stinkerie ever since. As well as Stink Pie, Stink Pot, Stinkey Pete, Little Stinks, Stinks, Puppy, Ducky, Baby, Baby Head, Baby Head Jenkins, Jack, Jack-Jack, Jackie Boy, Jax, Snork, Snorkis, Snorkle, Billy Boy, Billy Bob, Bobby Sue, Billy-Joe-Jim-Bob, Will, Willie, Willister, and the name given by my mentor turned friend Beth - Snake. When I write to her I call him either The Snakester or Slither! And of course, Dumpling, because he is my Little Dumpling - warm and soft and comforting. It's alright to combine comfort food with baby names, right? Have you ever watched the movie Where the Heart Is? If you have, you'll know why I mention this in my defense!

Long story short, you're likely to encounter any one or more of these names in a single post. Because I can. It's my blog!

Something to Consider

Bad decisions make good stories.

Something to Think About

With any pregnancy, there are concerns. With any child, there are worries. When you have a diagnosis of Down syndrome, you know what to worry about. You know what to look for. You have a plan of action. With your typical child, there is no limit to the things that can 'go wrong' or 'happen.' There's no place to focus your worry and concerns. 'IT' will always be out there, waiting. You'll always be on guard. Even when the child is 55 and has grandchildren. With Down syndrome we have a battle plan. With Down syndrome, there is a finite number of things that can go awry. With a typical child, there's isn't. It's a crap shoot. I'm sticking with the Ds and taking the other two back to the hospital for a refund.

Dear Patti...

Hi Patti...
It's Willie
You know...Jackie Boy
My Mom was really happy that you asked for more pictures of me!
She felt all warm and squishy about that!
So she took some. A bunch really.
But I didn't smile.

This is my sister.

Her name is The Girlie.

She catches me when I wiggle.

I love her This Much!

I even love her with my eyes closed...

...and while I'm sliding sideways!

Next my Mom tried this.

But I still wouldn't smile.

When I did give her a tiny smile she missed it. She said something about the "danged camera flash" not working right.

I got bored and decided to sing instead. Mom said it was sweet but she couldn't catch that on film.

But I like to sing, especially to the picture over the couch!

So she gave up on that approach. Did you see how pretty I was sitting up?

I'm pretending to sleep so she'll leave me alone.

But she moved me to the floor instead. So I gave her a tiny smile...

But that was the last one!

She tried to enlist the troops.

But I wasn't having it.

That's my big brother. His name is Pod-Pie!

This is where I give up and go to sleep.

When my Daddy gets home it's a different story.

I love to play with my Daddy!

He does his own brand of PT with me, gently swinging me back and forth while I hold my head up.

Then I get all giggly and curl my arms and legs up because it's just so fun!

When Mommy joins in it's a real game! When I hear her voice I drop my head back and Daddy swings me to her for a smootch right on the nose.

Then I get a big goofy grin, swing back, repeat.
...but Mommy was too busy smootchin' me to take the picture!

I get all goofy when my Daddy lifts me up to kiss me too! His mustache tickles my head!

And I love to be upside down! There were more of these grins but my arms were in the way!

Mommy used to have a something called a coniption fit when My Daddy did this with me, even though he still only does it for a minute at a time. I holler for more when he puts me down!

But usually when he puts me down he tickles my chubby legs!

That makes me laugh really hard and I get all wiggly!

Then it's time for more Daddy PT. This is the aerial view. Can you see how strong my neck is getting?

Then back to the floor for more leg tickling!

Hey Daddy! Lets hang upside down again!

Yeah! That's the ticket!

Hello Domino's? Yes, I'd like an extra-extra large, thin crust, easy sauce, extra cheese with sausage and pepperoni, hold the anchovies, please! It's for me and My Daddy!

Hey Dad, tell this guy your credit card number!

Yeah! We're getting pizza!

It's going to be this big!

Let's play until the pizza gets here!

I love it when Daddy swoops me into the air to play airplane!

I'm laughing reeaally hard in this picture!

This is what happens when Daddy stops playing airplane with me. It makes me really sad.

So he gets down on the floor to play with me!

And he pretends to holler when I pull his mustache with my little grabbers!

Then he helps me exercise my little chubbies some more...

...and I find this really funny!

And this is how I look, all tuckered out, smiling in my sleep, after a fun time playing with My Daddy!

Bye Patti! Thank you for looking at my pictures! (Mom says there were 47 of them even though she took over 120 today! I'm not sure though because I haven't learned how to count yet!)

Love, Willie

To Love Endlessly said...

hahaha!! I LOVE this post! Willie you have the BEST smile when your Daddy is doing PT with you. I bet your mommy isn't thrilled about your little onsie getting all stretched out though. I seem to think I have a conipition fit whenever Marissa's Daddy swings her around like crazy too. I can't believe your mommy took so many pictures in 1 day. She has so many reasons to be proud of the sweet little face of yours, not a million pictures could capture that love though. There's just so much of it! Make sure you give her lots of smooches for mama's day!
