...And in the air, the fireflies, our only light in paradise. We'll show the world that they were wrong, and teach them all to sing along; singing Amen I, I'm alive. Amen I, I'm alive...

And I'm singing Aaa-ayyy-men, I'm alive!

My only regret is that I cried so many tears while I waited for you.

"...I'll try ~ but it's so hard to believe. I'll try ~ but I can't see what you see. I'll try and try to understand the distance between the love I feel ~ the thing I fear ~ and every single dream. I can finally see it. Now I have to believe all those precious stories. All the world is made of faith ~ and trust ~ and pixie dust. So I'll try ~ because I finally believe. I'll try ~ because I can see what you see. I'll try, I'll try ~ to fly..."

Jonatha Brooke "I'll try"

Fear thou not, for I am with thee; be not dismayed, for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10

Now the word of the Lord came to me saying, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you..." Jeremiah 1:4-5

For Thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst weave me in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to Thee for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Thy works, and my soul knows it very well. Psalms 139:13-14

So Why Stinkerie?

It's simple, really. It's the first thing I whispered against my newborn little Dumpling's temple as I held him alone for that very first time. "There's my Little Stinkerie." And all was right with the world as I brushed my lips across his delicate dewy soft newborn-pink skin and sniffed at his sparse smattering of downy soft hair. Corny and sappy, huh? I can't help it when describing my new Little Puppy. But don't get used to it - I have been told I am "irreverent."

Anyway, it just came out and he's been Stinkerie ever since. As well as Stink Pie, Stink Pot, Stinkey Pete, Little Stinks, Stinks, Puppy, Ducky, Baby, Baby Head, Baby Head Jenkins, Jack, Jack-Jack, Jackie Boy, Jax, Snork, Snorkis, Snorkle, Billy Boy, Billy Bob, Bobby Sue, Billy-Joe-Jim-Bob, Will, Willie, Willister, and the name given by my mentor turned friend Beth - Snake. When I write to her I call him either The Snakester or Slither! And of course, Dumpling, because he is my Little Dumpling - warm and soft and comforting. It's alright to combine comfort food with baby names, right? Have you ever watched the movie Where the Heart Is? If you have, you'll know why I mention this in my defense!

Long story short, you're likely to encounter any one or more of these names in a single post. Because I can. It's my blog!

Something to Consider

Bad decisions make good stories.

Something to Think About

With any pregnancy, there are concerns. With any child, there are worries. When you have a diagnosis of Down syndrome, you know what to worry about. You know what to look for. You have a plan of action. With your typical child, there is no limit to the things that can 'go wrong' or 'happen.' There's no place to focus your worry and concerns. 'IT' will always be out there, waiting. You'll always be on guard. Even when the child is 55 and has grandchildren. With Down syndrome we have a battle plan. With Down syndrome, there is a finite number of things that can go awry. With a typical child, there's isn't. It's a crap shoot. I'm sticking with the Ds and taking the other two back to the hospital for a refund.

The Lynch Mob & Internecine Rivalry

We love the summer months because we get to visit our friends, The Lynch Mob, more frequently! Apparently there was some sort of barter system negotiated before we arrived and "those in the know" were monitoring our arrival to be certain that agreements having been hammered out were being strictly adhered to. To wit, Conner met us at the car and dutifully escorted Jack into the house. Once inside, he c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y removed the baby from his seat and then - what's this? - he handed him over to Debbie! So Debbie got to hold The Puppy first! When it was time for Baby Head to eat, Conner fed him the first half of his bottle and let Debbie feed him the second half.

Conner called dibs on the diaper change...

...good job, Conner!

Debbie, Conner seated with The Cue Ball, and oldest brother Kyle.

Love this face!

We finally succeeded in rounding up the whole group. You can see just how happy the two little ones on the end are to have to pose for a picture! The Girlie, Debbie, Conner with Willie, Kyle, The Pod, and Ryan.

Willie often closes his eyes while he's jubilantly kicking his legs! Shortly after this temporary armistice, all holds were barred and there began an all out free-for-all of feuding over who got to hold The Willister next!

"I will call you Squishy and you will be My Sqishy!" Finding Nemo

Debbie reclaimed The Little Snork once again.

"Oh Debbie, I think I love you!"

Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake...

"Vrroooom! Vrrrooom!"

Jack serenades Debbie to win her heart for his very own!

"Have I won you over yet, Debbie? Will you be mine-all-mine?"

"Mommy thinks I'm cute when I sing!"

Auntie Bits finally gets to plant a kiss on William!

"I can't believe my kids' feet were ever this small!"

Toes!!!

Cheeky kisses!

Kyle has been patient long enough and it's his turn to hold Jack Snack!

Happy boys!

Soft, small and pudgy atop large, calloused and strong.

The Pea Pod always listens intently while Kyle speaks. He really likes the timber of Kyle's voice!

"He's chewing on my arm!"

Finally! Auntie Bits snapped this picture, not only of the two little boys who are always missing from our pictures, but Ryan and The Pod are smiling! Here they are with The Girlie playing Mind Flex!

Pucker Up!

"C'mon, Mommy...pucker up and give us a little kiss!"Is there anything cuter than a baby in just a diaper? No really, is there? I can't tell because I'm blinded by the flash back from so much broad expanse of white! Love - this - boy!

Ssssshhhh! The Baby Is Sleeping!

"But can I lick him?" No! You may not lick him! He's sleeping!"Okay, but now can I lick him?"

"I don't understand why I can't lick him!"

"Awwww, c'mon...just one lick...pleeeaaase?"

"Fine. But as soon as she walks away I'm gonna lick him! At the very least I'm gonna lay here and make sure she doesn't get to lick him, either! So there!"

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Okay, so I would have named him Ethelwulf Amadeus Mozart...but I was shot down from coast to coast - Beth in Virginia and The Dear Daddy right here at home. Who's to know that I sometimes whisper "Wolfy" to him?

After a few wayward swipes he finally hit the keys! He didn't smile, but his eyes got huge and he kept kicking his feet so excitedly that I had to keep putting the piano back onto his lap!

Brothers

Grammy!

We got to visit with Grammy one more time before she went home to Idaho!
We sure hope Grandpa can come along next time!

I Try...

...not to be a geek, but when I see stuff like this, I just have to pull over and take a picture! I mean really, what are the chances that I will notice when this happens again?I had to pull off the freeway to get gas anyway, but this just struck me happy!

You Have To Love A Daddy...

...who stays up all night long to make sure His Girlie doesn't sleep through a lunar eclipse! We tried very hard to wake up The Pod Pie, who said simply, "Take pictures!" and rolled over to go back to sleep! "Dad. Make her stop with the flash thingy!" Yeah...let me know how that works out for ya!

Despite her sleepy face, she stayed up from 3:15 until 4:39 - one minute past the point when the eclipse reached it's maximum!

The cat was clearly bewildered but happy with her middle of the night company!

The Dear Daddy explained at east 52 times why "the telescope keeps moving!" because the earth is rotating away from the moon.

And when it was all done with, a breeze was kicked up by The Girlie's mad dash back to bed!

The next lunar eclipse visible over North America will be total! It will start at about 9 pm Pacific Standard time on December 20th and will conclude shortly after 1 am on December 21st, 2010! It's a Monday night/Tuesday morning, so mark your calendars!
